How to break your cell phone without really trying

As I have mentioned here before, I hate that cell phone companies make us play these games but they make the rules, here is how you take advantage of those rules. If you have a phone that is not functioning properly, or simply isn't living up to expectations, you may have to "Break" it to get a new one. For obvious reasons, carriers are not real hip about giving out replacement cell phones, so they often make you go through 20 hoops, the kind that are on fire no less, to get your phone replaced.

When you have a phone that is not working, it can be a severe headache, but try to remain calm and simply call your carrier to see if they can fix it. If they can go through a few steps in 5 minutes and get you back to where you started, great. But, if they simply can't fix the phone and don't want to give you another one right away, you might have to take drastic action. Often times, if you are having a problem that can't be easily identified, such as bad reception in one area, or dropping calls, companies often tell you to wait a few days and then call back.

When you call back, then they may tell you to wait another few days to see if it gets better. Better off not to waist your time and go another route. Here is where you have to "break" your phone. I am not suggesting you throw it in the lake, unless you have insurance and your phone isn't under warranty, no the break I am talking about is a virtual one. Simply make up a symptom that is easier for the company to test and fix. You can say something like "My screen is all white no matter what I do," or "My phone won't turn on." In that case, there is not a lot of fixing that can be done since you can't even see the menu. Be sure and keep telling them no matter what they tell you to do that the problem is still there. Since it can't be fixed, they will have to send you a new phone. I am not suggesting that you use this technique just to get leverage to get a different phone. I simply suggest that if you current phone is having issues and your carrier wants you to wait a month to get a new phone and you simply need a new one right away, you can just break your phone a different way than the way it is already broken and not have to be without for nearly as long.
