The only way to mitigate this damage to an extent is to tell each person that calls you that you want your name put on their do not call list. Unfortunately, most telemarketers don’t care about you or your time or they wouldn’t be calling you in the first place so they will either just take you off of their own do not call list or they will simply laugh and go on to the next call more than likely.

Also, never give any business to these over the phone solicitors, even if they are collecting for a reputable charity. Talk about getting your name on a list! Once they know that you are a soft touch, they will sell your name to every other charity in the galaxy and you will get solicitations forever. Also, if you have a relationship with a certain provider, they can contact you even if your name is on the do not call list. So, better to never do business over the phone if you can avoid it.
