How to save your phone after it gets wet

Once a cell phone gets wet, it is usually toast, but you may be able to save it with quick action.

The first thing to do if you even think your phone got wet (dropping it in the toilet is probably a good indication) is to remove the back cover and battery and sim. You don’t want any electricity going throught that bad boy, that will fry it immediately.

Next, turn the phone right side up (like you normally look at it) so that water won’t get further down in the electronic part of the phone. Get a towel and try to dry as much of the standing water as you can.

Next, take a hair dryer and on low heat (you mainly want just the airflow) try to dry out the inside of the phone. Again, try to keep it where the water isn’t getting further down in the phone. This is a bit of contorsion, but it does help.

After you can’t see any more moisture in the phone at all, put it in a bowl of rice with a lid on it. Rice is a good desicant, and will absorb any remaining moisture. You can leave it in overnight, but I like to do it for a couple of days, just to make sure. Depends on what the phone is worth.

Then, when things are COMPLETELY dry, put it back together and fire it up. More than likely, unless it is a Samsung, it won’t work, but once in a while, you may be able to save “Old trusty” this way.
