Why you should move to Las Vegas
I love Las Vegas. Where else can you get a 16 ounce T-bone and a margarita at 3 A.M.? Most people aren’t interested in that obviously, but there are other great things about Las Vegas. Las Vegas is one of the most interesting, frustrating, unique towns in America.
One of the best things about Las Vegas is the weather. Sun is a given just about any day of the year. When people come from Seattle, they wear 2 pairs of sunglasses just to make sure. It is great to wake up every day and see another beautiful day. Even in the winter when it is cold, the sun makes it feel a lot less depressing than the gray and cold Northern states. Now, in the summer, the sun will bake people that live in Las Vegas like a cheap piece of leather, but that is when you take your vacation to Europe anyway, right?
Entertainment is also another benefit of Las Vegas. I have never seen so many concerts as in Las Vegas. Anybody who is anybody or nobody comes to Las Vegas to display their talents. The wealth of talent is incredible, and even more interesting is the diversity. From the circus and racy adult shows at the casinos, to musical and other performing artists, there is no end to the entertainment choices available. I think you could see something different every evening and never get bored. Of course, having the money to see all those shows is the problem.
The economy is Las Vegas is a little tough right now, to say the least. With unemployment at over 10% and tourists staying in their caves, Las Vegas is in a real hurt these days. This I actually find to be a benefit as some casinos are going old school and offering better deals on food and rooms than in the last few years. Your money will at least go a little bit further than it did before. Unfortunately, if you are looking for a job, better to just visit, but if you are retired, who cares?
And that is another benefit of Las Vegas. Taxes, for the most part, are very low. Because of the casino revenue, many taxes are lower than they otherwise would be. If you are retired, that is the best of all worlds. Less of your money is used every year to pay for taxes, and you can still have a good quality of life. There are great communities for retired adults that offer social, recreational, and entertainment opportunities. If you are retired, check out Summerlin Sun City.
There are some other problems to worry about other than just employment. Traffic is horrific, so if you are a bad drive, you will feel right at home. If you are sane, you might not be for long. Also, the water will eventually run out leaving Vegas even dryer than it is now. But, if you are retired, you will be dead before that happens anyway, so who cares.
Strangely enough, the town that was built on youthful enthusiasm is probably best now for people that are old. So, if you are a geezer or geezette, you should think about Las Vegas very seriously, at least for the winter months. If you are young, you can still always visit for a few weeks or months, enjoy, and have some good memories.
